Political Movements and Artistic Life Practice as Interventions (English)

Art historian Anna Kipke examines the life and work of Emma Kunz, who connected alternative healing methods with practices of artistic abstraction in a Swiss village community. The aim is to counter the avantgarde narrative of heroic rupture and constitute the therapeutic as a form of artistic intervention; that is, as an interruptive practice oriented towards redivision and rearrangements. Rather than merely making demands, the creative-practical execution of such practices actually sketch out, examine, and implement social transformation. Philosopher Sambojang Ceesay focusses on the field of migrant and anti-racist movements by examining the critical potential of artistic interventions, particular those operating within the politics of remembrance, with the 19 February Hanau initiative used as an example in this context. In the interview, both talk about expectations and plans for joint research in the Collaborative Research Centre Intervening Arts.
