Zachary Small

Zachary Small is a New York Times reporter writing about the art world’s relationship to money, politics and technology.
After previously working in museums and theaters, Zachary Small started contributing to The Times in 2019 and was hired in 2023.  Zachary Small spent years writing criticism for art publications until becoming an investigative reporter on stories about sexual misconduct, fraud, forgeries and violence in cultural institutions. Their first book, Token Supremacy details the frenzied collision of art and cryptocurrency.
It is the responsibility of Zachary Small to demystify the art world, inviting readers into the boardrooms and studios of great cultural influence and examining the power of artists during a time when their work functions as vehicles for political manifestos, financial speculation and technological revolution. Zachary Small also investigates the changing role of museums in the digital age, writing additionally about the role artists have in developing new media, including artificial intelligence and video games.
