Silvy Chakkalakal

Silvy Chakkalakal studierte Kulturwissenschaft und Literaturkomparatistik in Tübingen, London und Berlin. 2014 wurde sie mit ihrer Doktorarbeit »Die Welt in Bildern« an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin promoviert. Sie war als Juniorprofessorin am Institut für Europäische Ethnologie (IfEE) und am Zentrum für transdiziplinäre Geschlechterstudien (ZtG) an der HU Berlin tätig. Seit Sommer 2023 hält Silvy Chakkalakal den Lehrstuhl für Populäre Literaturen und Medien am Institut für Sozialanthropologie und Empirische Kulturwissenschaft (ISEK) der Universität Zürich inne und ist Teil des Sonderforschungsbereichs (SFB) Intervenierende Künste. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte umfassen unter anderem Ästhetische Praxis, Historische Anthropologie, Anthropology of Time and Future und Ansätze der multimodalen Ethnografie und Bildgeschichte.

Silvy Chakkalakal studied cultural studies and comparative literature in Tübingen, London and Berlin. She was a junior professor at the Institute for European Ethnology (IfEE) and at the Center for Transdisciplinary Gender Studies (ZtG) at HU Berlin. Since summer 2023, Silvy Chakkalakal has held the Chair of Popular Literatures and Media at the Department of Social Anthropology and Cultural Studies (ISEK) at the University of Zurich and is part of the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) Intervening Arts. Her research interests include among others, aesthetic practice, historical anthropology, anthropology of time and future and approaches to multimodal ethnography and visual history.
