Marla Heid

English biography of Marla Heid

About

Marla Elisabeth Heid is an artist-researcher working at the intersection of public memory, critical historiography, and artistic intervention. With a background in art theory and cultural studies, her practice explores how monuments shape collective consciousness—and how they might be unmade, recontextualized, or reclaimed through artistic means. Her current doctoral research examines the political aesthetics of commemoration, with a focus on counter-monuments and para-monumental strategies that unsettle dominant narratives. Through writing, curating, and performative interventions, she engages with contested sites of memory, asking not only what is remembered, but how and for whom. She is a member of the Collaborative Research Center Intervening Arts and collaborates with artists, activists, and institutions across disciplines and borders.
