Judith Pieper

Judith Pieper ist wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin im Teilprojekt »Teilhabe und Dissoziation: Spannungen politischen Theaters im 20. Jahrhundert und in der Gegenwart« am Sonderforschungsbereich (SFB) Intervenierende Künste. In ihrem Dissertationsprojekt forscht sie zu Politischem Theater und Straßenpolitik um 1968. Dafür führt sie u.a. (Oral History) Interviews mit Zeitzeug:innen und gegenwärtigen Akteur:innen der Straßentheater- und Museumsszene. Sie ist Mitorganisatorin von Diskussionsformaten wie »Politics of (Dis)Assembling« im SAVVY Berlin und Mitherausgeberin des aus diesen Veranstaltungen erwachsenen Sammelbandes, der 2026 bei HumDrumPress erscheinen wird. Bisherige Publikationen umfassen Nachtkritiken, Blogbeiträge und einen Artikel zu kollektiven Entscheidungsprozessen intervenierender Chöre in der Paragrana.

Vor ihrer Zeit am SFB war sie wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin der Theaterwissenschaft am Institut für Theater-, Film- und Medienwissenschaft (TFM) der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt. Sie absolvierte ein B.A.-Studium der TFM und Erziehungswissenschaften dort und in Strasbourg und ein trinationales M.A.-Studium in »Medienkulturanalyse: Theater- und Medienkulturen im transnationalen Raum« in Düsseldorf, Wien und Nantes, das auch einen Forschungsaufenthalt über das Musée Dynamique in Dakar, Senegal, beinhaltete.

Neben ihrer wissenschaftlichen Arbeit war sie u.a. als Theater-, Film- und Circuspädagogin, freie pädagogische Mitarbeiterin am Historischen Museum Frankfurt, Gruppendolmetscherin, Übersetzerin und Mitarbeiterin beim FAVORITEN Festival tätig. Praktische künstlerische Erfahrungen als Schauspielerin, Performerin und Soundartist sammelte sie in Projekten mit Tino Sehgal, Laurent Chétouane, Manuela Infante, Johannes Schmit, Claudia Bosse/theatercombinat, generik vapeur, Nicolas Henry, Linn Mann, FeZ (Feministische Zusammenkunft) Frankfurt und dem Theater Alte Feuerwache e.V. Bad Nauheim.

Judith Pieper is a research assistant in the subproject »Participation and Dissociation: Frictions in 20th Century and Contemporary Political Theatre« at the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) Intervening Arts. In her dissertation project, she researches political theater and street politics around 1968. To this end, she conducts (oral history) interviews with contemporary witnesses and current actors in the street theater and museum scene. She is co-organizer of discussion formats such as »Politics of (Dis)Assembling« at SAVVY Berlin and co-editor of the anthology that grew out of these events, which will be published by HumDrumPress in 2026. Previous publications include night reviews, blog posts and an article on collective decision-making processes of intervening choirs in Paragrana.

Before joining the CRC, she was a research assistant in theater studies at the Institute for Theater, Film and Media Studies (TFM) at Goethe-University Frankfurt. She completed a BA in TFM and Education there and in Strasbourg, and a trinational MA in »Media Culture Analysis: Theater and Media Cultures in Transnational Spaces« in Düsseldorf, Vienna and Nantes, which also included a research stay associated with the Musée Dynamique in Dakar, Senegal.

In addition to her academic work, she has worked as a theater, film and circus educator, freelance educational assistant at the Frankfurt Historical Museum, group interpreter, translator and staff member at FAVORITEN festival. She gained practical artistic experience as an actress, performer and sound artist in projects with Tino Sehgal, Laurent Chétouane, Manuela Infante, Johannes Schmit, Claudia Bosse/theatercombinat, generik vapeur, Nicolas Henry, Linn Mann, FeZ (Feminist Gathering) Frankfurt and the Theater Alte Feuerwache e.V. Bad Nauheim.
